Me oh my, I can’t believe I actually did it. I actually bought a non-stop one way ticket to JFK. I sold my Mini Cooper and all of my furniture. I packed my whole life up and stuffed it into 2 suitcases, 2 carry-ons and 4 cardboard boxes. I quit my job, said goodbye to my wonderful Houston friends and coworkers and peaced out. Mind blown (even I didn’t think I’d actually do it!)
Reversing the truck a bit: I moved to Houston in June of 2012 with the sole intent to save money and set myself up to move to NYC. But somewhere in the middle life got in the way as it tends to do. I got into a relationship, started my Life Coaching business, made some amazing friends and landed a pretty sweet job. So when it came time to make a decision I was a little worried: would have the guts it took to make the move? I figured I’d chicken out and decide to stay put in H-town nonchalantly saying, “I didn’t really want to move to NYC anyway…”. That would have been the easier choice for sure! In the back of my mind I knew I’d regret not following my dreams of moving to New York. Somewhere along the way I decided that I would rather face my fear than live with the regret. So I took action. Here I am on the cusp of a new adventure feeling pleased with my decision yet asking myself “Ummm…now what do I do?” I guess I’ll just have to figure it out!
Since I am a Life Coach it’s my job to inspire people into action. I plan on continuing to challenge myself even when I don’t have the answers (or the courage for that matter!). My promise to myself and to my readers is to keep moving forward in some way even if it’s a teeny, tiny, baby step forward. Movement (or call it action) of any size is good in my book. I will continue to move forward as I did before, only now, I get to do it against the beautiful New York backdrop.

Before I wrap up, I want to leave you with a couple of goodies. Here are 2 of the affirmations I used to help me focus on accomplishing my move to NYC:
I easily stay 5 steps ahead of myself in planning and executing the actions necessary to move to Brooklyn, New York. This was important because I tend to get overwhelmed easily when I have multiple things to do. I figured if I could train my brain to stay 5 steps ahead of itself I’d end up being more prepared. It worked! I felt only lightly stressed and I tended to take care of things ahead of time instead of procrastinating like I normally do.
The perfect buyer for my car contacts me one month before I fly out of Houston who is willing to let me use my car until the day before I leave. This actually happened! My buyer found me by word of mouth when a friend mentioned I was moving and selling my car. She happened to be in the market for a car but had missed the Houston car show because she felt under the weather that weekend. When she heard I was selling my Mini, she contacted me and the rest is history. The whole transaction was absolutely effortless and to this day I say that my car literally sold itself without my help. Oh by the way this happened in a months’ time and she offered to let me keep the car until the last day before my flight. How crazy is that?
